In Memoriam: Elder L. Tom Perry

August 5, 1922 – May 30, 2015

Beloved Leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints & Champion of Religious Freedom

We note with sorrow the passing of a giant: Elder L. Tom Perry of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died on Monday, May 30th, at the age of 92, from thyroid cancer. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, to the 15 million members of the LDS Church, Elder Perry was an inspiring force with a personal touch.

“Faith communities around the country will mourn Elder Perry’s passing while celebrating his remarkable life. Faith leaders who worked with him recognize that he was completely dedicated to defending their religious freedom, especially if their faith was different than his. He spoke frequently about how the flourishing of the country he loved required people to vigorously practice their own faith. He will be greatly missed.”
